Here are the community guidelines we came up with in class on Sept. 12th. Comment below if you have further ideas you’d like to add!
- Reduce anxiety around translating
- No cold calling
- Get help from other students in class
- Translating should be collaborative
- Make space for difficult conversations
- Ok to leave / take a break
- Content warnings: will be offered sometimes, but we should also do our best to inform ourselves about the content of our texts in advance
- Contemporary scholarship / criticism to help us make sense of difficult material: will mostly be encountered through apodeixis / erga assignments
- Respectful conduct in class
- Recognize each contribution made in class
- Make time to explore people’s interests and questions
- Respect pronouns and learn names
